I live in Whiteriver , one of the toughest street in Honiara the capital of Solomon Islands. Youths usually do not like each other whenever they confront there usually is a brawl despite the cultural differences. last year after arrival from india me and another action partner namely Moses Au decided to seek a better way that these youths can come together and start associating with each other. we ended up at another non government organisation headquarter in Honiara namely world vision seeking for their help to assist. this idea suddenly clicked to their mind that may be they should involve some of their youth programmes to our community. not long they contacted us and said they will help in micro project funds for youths. then me and my action partner went and started talking with youths from our street to come together to form our own youth group. first it was a bit hard to convince all the youths because even amongst themselves things were not still settled. still we did not give up ,we kept on trying and trying until after a few months later they decided to join together. so we got together and form a newly community based organistion called L.S. (love squad -LOVE meaning let our voice express.) with our main goals in assisting youth to find youth opportunity and recognising their talents and skills.
Now it is 42 members but many more youths are asking to join. What we have here is that most of the youths do not attend proper education ( atleast half) and most are now in the age of 23-30, so to put them back into school was impossible,, what we did here is that we want to make use of their skills and talents, so with world vision’s assistance we decided to find companies or organisation that may need their skills , example carving skills , painting , body tatooieng, etc.so .to employ them in their industries and since the pacific arts festival will be held in Honiara next year, now the responses came back that the Solomon islands authorities in organising the cultural events wanted some of them to work with them, (though they still have not started yet) or provide the authorities with their ready made artifacts…….. its still on the progress.
We start of this group,,they are all from the hard streets,, what we want is to advocate them to be of more positive in seeing life and find them job opportunities and when they got motivated to carry on with their lives by themselves then they go out back to the street doing right spreading the message of love from God’s sympathy that they are all Christians and that God loves them all. But generally to see DRUGS in the monthly motto to remind them to do away with drugs.

Great initiative you’re doing there co-APs! Keep up! I am inspired
